| dc.description | Abordamos las promesas formuladas en situación de enfermedad por devotos del Noroeste argentino en el transcurso del siglo xix al xx y las prácticas realizadas por los enfermos, sus familiares o personas cercanas para lograr la curación. Tenemos en cuenta las advocaciones marianas y crísticas a las cuales acudían los promesantes, el uso de imágenes religiosas y de objetos con propiedades tanto terapéuticas como alucinógenas, los rituales realizados y la identificación o preparación de remedios. Consideramos a la promesa como un conjunto integrado de representaciones y prácticas de sacralización y curativas para afrontar enfermedades diversas. El corpus documental comprende catecismos, narraciones de promesas y relatos históricos sobre tradiciones religiosas. Un segundo grupo lo conforman crónicas, herbolarios y guías terapéuticas. | - |
| dc.description | We will examine devotion promises made by devotees in state of illness, living in the Argentinian Northwest during the course of the nineteenth to the twentieth century. The article will address the practices performed by the sick, their relatives or close people for healing purposes. We take into account the Marian and Christic devotions to which the promising devotees resorted to, the use of religious images and objects (with both therapeutic and hallucinogenic properties), the rituals performed and the identification or preparation of medicines. We consider the promise as an integrated set of representations and enshrinement and healing practices to fight different diseases. The documentary corpus includes catechisms, narratives of promises and historical accounts of religious traditions. A second group consists of chronicles, herbalists and therapeutic guides. | - |
