| dc.description | La Descripción de la Patagonia y de las partes contiguas de América del sur fue escrita por el misionero jesuita inglés Thomas Falkner y publicada en el año 1774. Fue parte de la enorme producción textual que realizaron los padres jesuitas después de la expulsión y disolución de la Compañía; estas obras trataban sobre el espacio geográfico, natural y social en el cual habían misionado. El artículo repasará las distintas formas discursivas de la escritura jesuita para tratar de establecer en qué modelo retórico puede inscribirse mejor la obra de Thomas Falkner. Un verdadero signo distintivo que tiene la obra del jesuita inglés es que cumplió con muy pocos requisitos textuales y formales del movimiento ilustrado. Esta displicencia hacia la Ilustración es bastante paradójica porque fue el único jesuita que contó con la formación académica necesaria para desarrollar un texto que cumpliera con todas estas exigencias. | - |
| dc.description | A description of Patagonia, and the adjoining parts of South America was written by the English missionary Jesuit Thomas Falkner, and was published in the year 1774. It was part of the enormous textual production that was realized by the Jesuit fathers after the expulsion and dissolution of the Company; this works were about the geographic, natural and social space where the Jesuits had missioned. This article will review different discursive forms of the Jesuit writing in order to establish in what rhetoric model can be better register the oeuvre of Thomas Falkner. A true hallmark that has the work of the English Jesuit is that it fulfilled with very few of the textual and formal requirements of the enlightenment movement. This indifference to the Enlightenment is very paradoxical, given that he was the only Jesuit that had the academic background necessary to develop a text that fulfilled all the exigencies. | - |
