| dc.description | En un referéndum celebrado el 23 de junio de 2016 la ciudadanía del Reino Unido votó a favor de la salida del país de la Unión Europea (UE). Constituye un hecho inédito, ya que se trata de la primera vez que un Estado miembro decide abandonar la UE. En este breve trabajo nos proponemos un objetivo modesto: identificar algunos de los factores domésticos, tanto estructurales como coyunturales, pasibles de explicar la decisión de la ciudadanía del Reino Unido de dejar de forma parte de la UE. Dada la importancia de los factores domésticos estructurales en el resultado del referéndum en el Reino Unido–el tradicional excepcionalismo británico, un país abiertamente euroescéptico y las posturas renuentes de los gobiernos británicos hacia el proyecto de integración europea-, difícilmente dicho resultado pueda repetirse en otros países miembros de la UE, en caso de que celebren consultas populares en la misma dirección. | - |
| dc.description | In a referendum held on June 23, 2016, the citizens of the United Kingdom (UK) decided that the UK should leave the European Union (EU). This is an unprecedented event, since it is the first time that a Member State decides to exit the EU. The primary and unpretentious goal of this short article isto identify some of the domestic factors, both structural as circumstantial, that could explain the decision of UK citizens to leave the EU. Given the importance of domestic structural factors in the British case -British exceptionalism, a country overtly eurosceptic, and the reluctant positions of British Governments towards the European integration project-, the result of the British referendum is unlikely to be repeated in other EU member countries, in case similar ballots were to be held. | - |
