| dc.description | Se caracterizó la musculatura natatoria de nototénidos subantárticos mediante técnicas histoquímicas, determinándose la presencia de cuatro tipos de fibras: SDF, rojas, intermedias y blancas. Se demostró la utilidad de la técnica de la mATPasa para diferenciar distintos tipos musculares. El proceso de hiperplasia muscular cesó al 40 - 70 % de la talla máxima de cada especie, encontrándose tres patrones distintos de incorporación de fibras directamente relacionados con las tallas finales de las mismas. Las fibras musculares de E. maclovinus y P. tessellata mostraron la misma tasa de crecimiento. Todos los nototénidos subantárticos estudiados presentan valores de flotabilidad propios de especies de hábitat bentónico. El rendimiento natatorio de E. maclovinus fue superior a 10°C que a 4°C. La velocidad, aceleración y potencia inercial de los arranques rápidos de E. maclovinus a 2 °C fueron superiores a los de una especie antártica (N. rosii), y el grado de curvatura del cuerpo y de estiramiento de las fibras blancas similares a los de especies de aguas templadas y tropicales. Los valores energéticos de distintos órganos y tejidos de las especies que se separaron antes del tronco ancestral de los nototénidos mostraron valores significativamente mayores que los del resto de las especies. | - |
| dc.description | The swimming muscles of sub-Antarctic notothenioids were characterised using histochemical techniques. Four different fibre types were found: SDF, red, intermediate and white. The mATPase technique was found useful for muscle fibre type characterisation. Hyperplasia cessation occurred at 40 - 70 % of the final length of each species. Three different patterns of fibre incorporation were found and related to the final length of each species. All the sub-Antarctic notothenioid species studied had buoyancy values typical of benthic species. The swimming perfomance of E. maclovinus was higher at 10 °C than at 4°C. The velocity, acceleration and inertial power of the fast-starts of E. maclovinus were higher than the ones found in an Antarctic notothenioid (N. rosii), and the curvature of the body and the muscle strain of the white fibres were similar to those of species from template and tropical waters. The energetic content of different organs and tissues from the species that diverge earlier from the parent taxa of the notothenioids showed significantly higher values than the other notothenioid species. | - |
