| dc.description | La familia Mymercophagidae, constituida por cuatro especies, son mamíferos xenartros con distribución endémica del Neotrópico. Al pertenecer esta familia a un grupo basal en placentados, es de particular interés para el establecimiento de las relaciones filogenéticas en mamíferos. Como constituyente de nuestra fauna autóctona su biología requiere ser cuidadosamente analizada. Se caracterizó citogenética-molecularmente a 39 ejemplares (20 machos y 19 hembras) de Mymercophaga tridactyla (2n=60 y NF=110-12) y 29 ejemplares (17 machos y 12 hembras) de Tamandua tetradactyla (2n=54 y NF 108). Se establecieron dos poblaciones cariológicas para M. tridactyla y una para T. Tetradactyla en su distribución Argentina. El par 1 al igual que otros pares cromosómicos, como los sexuales, resultaron estar compartidos en la familia. Se describió también la morfología de los tractos reproductivos en machos y hembras. El tracto reproductor femenino, reveló características arcaicas (seno-urogenital) presentes en otras especies de Xenarthra. Los machos de Tamandua tetradactyla presentaron inhibición testicular, en relacion con una variación en el tamaño del tracto reproductor y se caracterizó morfométricamente el espermatozoide. Tambien se determinó el ciclo hormonal en hembras de ambas especies resultando poliéstricas anuales. | - |
| dc.description | The four species of the Mymercophagidae family are Xenarthra mammals with endemic distribution in the Neotropics. The basal status of this family, in the placental mammals, makes them important for establishing phylogenetic relationships in mammals. Being part of our native fauna makes it necessary for us to carefully analyze and reformulate again their biology. 39 specimens (20 males and 19 females) of Mymercophaga tridactyla (2n = 60 and NF = 110-12) and 29 individuals (17 males and 12 females) of Tamandua tetradactyla (2n = 54 and NF 108) were characterized cytogenetic and molecularly. Two karyological populations of M. tridactyla and one of T. Tetradactyla were established for their Argentine distribution. The pair 1, as other pairs like the sex chromosomes, was found to be shared in the family. The morphology of the reproductive tracts and hormone cycle in females of both species, which were determined as annual polyestrous, were described. The female reproductive tract showed archaic features (urogenital sinus) present in other species of Xenarthra. The males of Tamandua Tetradactyla showed testicular inhibition, correlated to a size variation of the reproductive tract and the spermatozoon was morphometrically characterized. | - |
