| dc.description | La polilla del tomate, Tuta absoluta, es una de las plagas más devastadoras del cultivo de tomate en Sudamérica, donde es originaria, y en Europa y África, donde ha ingresado recientemente. El control de T. absoluta se basa principalmente en el empleo de plaguicidas. El objetivo de esta tesis fue establecer las bases para el desarrollo de la Técnica del Insecto Estéril, mediante el empleo de la Esterilidad Heredada (EH) en T. absoluta, y evaluar su integración con el Control Biológico (CB) con entomófagos. Los principales aportes de esta tesis son: - Conocimiento del efecto de los rayos X sobre la biología de T. absoluta. - Determinación de la dosis óptima de radiación X para aplicar la EH en el control de T. absoluta. - Estudio del efecto de la radiación sobre la dispersión de machos irradiados. - Evaluación de la supresión de poblaciones silvestres de T. absoluta mediante la liberación de individuos irradiados en invernáculo. - Determinación del número mínimo de individuos irradiados a liberar para reducir poblaciones de T. absoluta. - Evaluación de la integración de la EH y el CB mediante el empleo de los entomófagos Trichogramma spp. y Tupiocoris cucurbitaceus. | - |
| dc.description | The tomato leafminer, Tuta absoluta, is one of the most devastating pests of tomato crops. This species is native to South America, but it has been invading Europe, Africa and Asia recently. The main method of control of T. absoluta relies on the application of chemical insecticides. The objective of the thesis was to establish the basis for the development of the Sterile Insect Technique in this species through the Inherited Sterility (IS), and to evaluate its integration with Biological Control (BC) by entomophagous. The main contributions of this thesis are: - Knowledge of the effect of X rays on the T. absoluta biology. - Determination of the optimal dose of X radiation to be used in the IS against T. absoluta - Study of the effect of the radiation on the dispersion of irradiated males - Assessment of the suppression of wild populations of T. absoluta through the release of irradiated individuals under greenhouse conditions. - Determination of the minimum number of irradiated individuals that should be released to reduce wild T. absoluta populations - Evaluation of the integration of both IS and BC techniques using the entomophagous Trichogramma spp. and Tupiocoris cucurbitaceus | - |
